Trump Turns Heads After People Spot Small Detail In His New Oval Office

President Donald Trump has made yet another eye-catching addition to the Oval Office, and this time, it’s a replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy sitting behind his famous Resolute Desk.

Each incoming president typically personalizes the White House with their own mementos, from family photos to meaningful artifacts. But soccer fans quickly noticed something unusual in recent images of Trump signing executive orders—a gleaming gold replica of the Jules Rimet Trophy, better known as the FIFA World Cup.

The unexpected sight has sparked plenty of speculation online.

“What’s a World Cup trophy doing in Trump’s office?! ” one user on X, formerly Twitter, questioned. Another chimed in: “Wait, is that the World Cup behind President Trump?”

There could be a few explanations. One possibility? A nod to the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The U.S. will host the majority of the matches—78 out of 104—including the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19. Trump is expected to be the one presenting the trophy to the tournament’s champions, making the display in his office a fitting tribute ahead of the event.

Some, however, see a more political angle. Trump has been vocal about trade negotiations with both Mexico and Canada, recently floating the idea of a 25% tariff on imports from the two neighboring nations. While that plan has been paused for further discussions, tensions remain high. Could the trophy be a subtle message tied to those ongoing talks?

Another possible reason behind the display is Trump’s long-standing relationship with FIFA. He has been an outspoken supporter of the international soccer governing body and maintains a friendly relationship with its president, Gianni Infantino. Infantino publicly congratulated Trump on his re-election last November and even attended his inauguration last month.

That being said, the trophy in Trump’s office is not the real deal. A FIFA spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic that it is indeed a replica.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Trump has showcased a World Cup trophy in the Oval Office. During his first term from 2017-2021, a similar miniature version was spotted in the same location back in 2018. At the time, some speculated it could have been a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the 2018 World Cup was hosted in Russia.

Whether it’s a tribute to the upcoming tournament, a political statement, or just a decorative touch, one thing is certain—Trump’s Oval Office decor continues to spark conversation.
